LEAD:
When the Canadian government forced the Inuit to stop living off the
land and move into villages and towns in the north it severely
distrupted their culture. That also allowed tuberculosis to
further
ravage the population. Kevin Patterson knows that sad story all too
well. When he isn't writing in the south, he is a doctor practicing in
remote
communites in the north.
Consumption is the story of one family dealing with the clash between tradition and the modern age.
